Vibrational Sound Therapy

I am now certified in Vibrational Sound Therapy

Himalayan “singing bowls” designed specifically for sound and vibrational therapy are placed upon the body for a deep state of relaxation. The vibration penetrates the body’s cells to allow ‘homeostasis” to occur, while the sound encourages the theta and delta brain wave state.

This therapy can be done while fully clothed or in conjunction with a regular massage. This therapy is good for people with anxiety and or depression and for those who don’t like to be touched as well as anyone who enjoys a good, deep relaxing experience.

Research measuring brain activity by EEG shows from the moment your reflexologist’s hands start their work, the relaxation begins. All together, 24 studies demonstrate reflexology’s relaxation effects. The stimulation of reflexology’s pressure techniques creates change in the body’s basic level of tension, helping control blood pressure, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate and anxiety.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

I will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards I will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you.

I may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

What do I wear during the massage?

Depending on the primary technique used, you may or may not need to undress. Only undress to your level of comfort, for a full body massage, most people undress to their bottom underwear. However, you may choose to undress completely or keep some of your clothes on. I will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except for the area being worked on.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. Try to concentrate on your breathing and the sound of the music. If you feel any discomfort or would like more/ less pressure, do not be afraid to speak up. If I want you to adjust your position, I will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed – you do not need to help with the movement. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time. During some deep tissue techniques, there can be a significant amount of pressure that may be on the verge of uncomfortable – it is best to breathe deeply during this technique to help the muscle release. If something is painful, please let me know.

How will a massage feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used. I use a form of Swedish massage, which is often a baseline for practitioners. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (effleurage) that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that I can use another approach or technique.

Will the massage oils used make me break-out?

I use a hypo-allergenic gel with apricot and grapeseed oils for most massages. If you have sensitivity to any types of oils or lotion please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention so we make sure to use only hypo-allergenic.

What’s the difference between deep tissue and firm pressure massage?

There is often a misconception by clients that “firm pressure” is the same as “deep tissue massage.” To help clear up the confusion, click here to read about what’s different.
